Founder & Principal, Justice with Humanity
Jamie D. Beck is an attorney, expert witness, educator, and systems-change leader with over fifteen years of experience working at the intersection of law, trauma, and justice. As Founder & Principal of Justice with Humanity, her work focuses on increasing access to justice for survivors of human trafficking and domestic violence, while advancing a more trauma-responsive legal system.
Before founding Justice with Humanity, Jamie served as President and Managing Attorney of Free to Thrive, a nonprofit organization dedicated to addressing the unmet legal needs of human trafficking survivors throughout Southern California. Under her leadership, the organization helped hundreds of survivors access legal relief and stability. Jamie has represented survivors in a wide range of matters, including criminal record vacatur, domestic violence restraining orders, divorce, child custody, victims’ rights advocacy, and name changes. She also cultivated strategic partnerships with more than 100 organizations at the local and national levels.
Jamie is a recognized leader in trauma-informed legal education. She currently serves as an Adjunct Lecturer in Law, teaching an interdisciplinary course on Trauma-Informed Legal Skills at USC Gould School of Law alongside clinical psychologist Dr. Remi Greenbaum. Through her teaching, training, and consulting, Jamie has educated thousands of attorneys, judges, students, law enforcement professionals, and community leaders on trauma-informed practice, survivor-centered advocacy, and the impact of trauma on legal systems.
Earlier in her career, Jamie practiced civil litigation at Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch LLP, where she served on the firm’s Pro Bono and Diversity Committees. She also clerked for the Honorable Michael M. Anello of the United States District Court for the Southern District of California.
Jamie is a past president of Lawyers Club of San Diego and the founder of the Lawyers Club Human Trafficking Collaborative. Under her leadership, Lawyers Club successfully advocated for legislation allowing survivors of human trafficking to clear criminal convictions connected to their exploitation, now codified in California law.
Jamie earned her J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law, where she was a member of the San Diego Law Review.
